All you need to do is hit the keyboard shortcut combination and it will start recording. However, if you record your keystrokes, you will not have the option to use it later on. You can read some tips here. Kerch.io has a brilliant free screencasting tool named Studio. It is very intuitive and easy to use. The app allows you to record your screencast directly from the Mac desktop using the Screen Recording feature built in your Mac. The tool uses a simple default interface that allows you to change the quality of the recording, from low to high or high. This application is a one stop recording tool to create screencasts. It is very similar to Camtasia. Fraps Description: A screencast recorder that works with Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. Features: Full screen recording: record full screen recordings without any menus or windows to appear on the screen. Hide menu bar: Enable or disable the menu bar to record your screen. Full custom recording options. Recording to text file: Export recordings to text files and convert them to a variety of different formats. Save recordings to local computer for download or upload to video sharing websites. Find it on: Mac App Store The Screencasting Toolbox is a free screencasting tool that allows you to create screencasts by using your mouse or keyboard. When you are finished, you can save the video directly to a location on your computer. The app was updated to support the new version of Apple operating systems. As a result, you now have the option to save the recording directly to your camera roll and even sync it to your iCloud account. Display this help /color String with foreground and background color values /opacity String with values between 0 and 100, where 100 is fully opaque /bgcolor Background color in RGB format /opacity Opacity between 0 and 100 /alignment Alignment values /shortcuts List of shortcuts to display (default /alt /ctrl /shift) ## Building the Shortcut In the ShowUs configuration window (Figure 1), specify a foreground and background color by entering a comma-separated list of RGB triplets. For instance, you can enter `black,0,0` to specify a black foreground color with zero opacity. Or you can enter `black,0,255` to specify a background color with no color but at 100% opacity. The tool displays the keystrokes with a transparent foreground, which is a great feature if you are recording a video tutorial that requires transparency. You can enter a percentage value between 0 and 100, which is the opacity value, and the tool will display the keys with the color and opacity you specify. Figure 1: ShowUs has a versatile configuration window that allows you to customize the style and behavior of the tool. For each keystroke, you can also specify a delay, duration and opacity. You can also choose the character combination to use, whether to display the mouse actions or simply show the keys, and the font size and font type to use. ## Encoding the Screencast Once you have configured the settings for ShowUs, click the ```Encoding``` button, and you are presented with the File Naming dialog where you need to specify the name for the video you are about to create.
